Our experience will enhance your experience to create a custom itinerary to suit your interests as well as attract students to the Greek island lifestyle of sun, sea and sport.

The hallmarks of our offering are 100% flexibility and affordable cost. We can provide one week on Paros including accommodation, meals, workshops and tourist activities for as low as 500 Euro per participant. Excluding air fare your two week introduction to classical Greece can be budgeted for an economic 1,250 Euro per student with faculty free. Optional extras would be a little more.

The course will include thoughts, discussion, and practice on the digital photography process with the aim of producing a final fine print.

We will work through the entire digital photography workflow, including monitor calibration, building color profiles for the paper on which we will be printing, and color theory.

We will discuss how the choices we make during the process have a profound effect on our intentions as photographic seers, poets, and artists. From capture to finished print, how the use of technical control informs our creative voice and ideas; the choice of paper, sizing, inks and formating are all of paramount importance in expressing our ideas. Craft is essential to the creative process.

The Basic Traineeship is designed to allow maximum time for personal skills development on the water. It is suitable for beginners and early intermediates who are happy to accept a steep learning curve.

See also our Dinghy Sailing Instructor Pro Traineeship which matches the Basic course and follows it with four weeks of post-qualification professional development. We also offer dinghy training combined with windsurfing in Dinghy Sailing/Windsurf Basic and Pro Traineeships.

The first two weeks provide intensive foundation training. We teach you how to sail effectively, and we provide essential courses in first aid and rescue boat driving.

The middle two weeks are the core of the skill-building programme. You sail under the guidance of expert coaches who guarantee to improve your performance on the water. You are working towards passing the RYA’s ‘pre-entry’ assessment, a test of your sailing skills.

The final two weeks are devoted to instructor training and assessment, focusing on the coaching skills needed to train beginners and improvers in single and two-handed sailing dinghies. You will develop an imaginative approach to teaching safe and efficient sailing, as well as the theory that underlies it. We make sure you have time to learn and practise the necessary teaching techniques before being examined.

To gain the instructor qualification you need to demonstrate good communication skills, an understanding of the training scheme, in-depth theory knowledge, group management ability, safety awareness and an effective coaching style.

The course is based at at Club Vass and Wildwind, twin high-performance centres at Vassiliki, Lefkas, Greece. Don’t miss the opportunity to race high performance Hobies, Lasers and RS dinghies at Wildwind.

This program is a traditional full-immersion semester based in Nicosia. Students will take 2 courses on Greek art and language and can then select 3 more electives with which they can customize their curriculum across a wide range of courses available at Inter-college.

In addition to the academic coursework, students participate in a trip to Greece, Italy and Spain, as well as a series of educational trips and cultural excursions within Cyprus. The excursions and cultural events ensure that students develop a relationship with Greek culture and enhance their intercultural competencies.

This well established study tour of Greece includes daily visits to important Minoan, Mycenaean, Classical and Byzantine sites in Greece. Lectures and discussions on Classical Mythology provide the context in which to examine aspects of art, architecture, history, religion and much more. Stays on Crete, Santorini and Mykonos are included.

Itinerary: In the first part of the program, we visit the most important classical and Mycenaean sites of Mainland Greece – Athens and its world famous monuments (the Parthenon, etc.), Cape Sunion, Eleusis, Delphi, Olympia, Mystras, Mycenae, Epidauros and others. Next we sail to Crete, rich in still Minoan palaces, rugged landscape and distinctive culture. Also scheduled is a trek through the spectacular Samaria gorge. In Santorini we visit ash covered Akrotiri, thought to be the source of the myth of Atlantis. Mykonos is our base to visit the sacred island of Delos. Travel and transfer are by private air conditioned bus. Arrangements for extended travel should be made 60 days prior to departure. The leader in shipboard study-abroad education, Semester at Sea sails three voyages per year for academic credit. Our vessel, the MV Explorer, is a passenger liner converted into a state-of-the-art seafaring campus.

Semester at Sea’s campus, the MV Explorer, is a 25,000-ton passenger liner that has been specially outfitted as a floating university. This intensive three-week course is ideal for students of the humanities who have an interest in ancient Greek history, art, religion, and culture. Life in contemporary Greece will also be discussed. Through orientation sessions, lectures and extensive field trips, you will get a feel for the three-dimensional realities of ancient monuments, as well as for the landscape of Greece and its important role in the story of its people. You will discover why there are few visible remains of the Spartans and visualize the battle of Marathon from the plain on which it was fought. You will walk in the stadium at Olympia-home to the original games-while observing the enormity of the project Athens undertook by hosting the 2004 Olympics.

Highlights

Your studies will begin in Athens, where you will visit several of its archaeological treasures: the Acropolis, the ancient Agora, the Kerameikos, and the National Archaeological Museum. Following your time spent in Athens, you will travel to other sites on mainland Greece to observe some of the centers of prehistoric Mycenaean civilization.

Additionally, you will visit sites that provide vivid clues to the ancient Greek religion and its fundamental link to the polis system. Enjoy painting and drawing classes with Artists on the Move on the beautiful island of Paros, Greece. Art classes are designed to study practical elements of painting and drawing such as color theory and composition while helping students to develop a personal approach and expression.

The art workshops are open to all levels of experience and are customized to fit individual needs and abilities. Students may choose to paint in oil, acrylic or watercolor. Printmaking is also taught and employed as an expansion on the painting and drawing process. The workshops with Artists on the Move are held for seven days with students working mostly in the morning hours, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. daily.

Highlights

Students paint and draw in open settings, surrounded by stunning views of the Aegean Sea or nestled in the little streets of the old towns of Paroikia, Naoussa and Lefkes. During printmaking and other work sessions, students spend time in and around the studio that is located in a peaceful and private setting.

In order to enhance the artistic journey, visits are scheduled to museums, cultural and artistic events throughout the week. Paros is an artist’s island boasting wonderful museums and galleries that feature both archaic treasures and contemporary local artists. As a group we also visit the Church of 100 Doors, the earliest remaining Byzantine church in Greece, and its adjacent Baptistery built from the 4th to the 6th centuries.

Hellenic International Studies in the Arts (HISA) brings together an interaction between students who desire more than a traditional lecture format and talented teachers and artists who wish to share their experience and knowledge in the historical and classical landscape of Paros Island, Greece.

Drawing on extensive and diverse backgrounds in university teaching and administration, Fulbright programs direction, and international art and academic seminars, HISA has now synthesized its experience into a single, unique and creative learning environment.

Each course in the HISA full semester program has been carefully organized to meet university standards, and all core courses carry from two to four units of credit each. Class enrollment is minimized to ensure that students can receive special, individual attention and profit from a close working relationship with their teachers.

At the completion of the studies in Greece, HISA will issue a transcript. If necessary, arrangements can be made for transcripts to be issued from a U.S. accredited university, Massachusetts College of Art, with the student paying the cost.

Courses are available in: Philosophy, Literature, Painting Workshop, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Art, Historical Sites, Women Studies, Art Studio, and Photography Workshop.
